The congregation of Mount Zion bid farewell to Dr. Tom Connar and Rev. Kim Hall. Dr. Connar, who served as the senior minister at Mount Zion for nine years, decided to retire after 30 years in the ministry. Rev. Hall, who has served as associate pastor since 2004, was been reassigned to a growing church in southern Maryland. A farewell brunch was held immediately after the 10:30am service, during which the congregation expressed their appreciation and said goodbye.
Rev. Malcolm Stranathan began his tenure at Mount Zion UMC during the 8:30 service. Ed Beaver, chairmen of the Staff/Parish Relations Committee introduced Rev. Strananthan and his family to the congregation and offered the following prayer of mututal support:
Eternal God, strengthen and sustain us in our ministries together. Give us patience, courage, and wisdom so to care for one another and challenge one another that together we may follow Jesus Christ, living together in love, and offering our gifts and talents in your service through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
